The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) is implementing the Amendment of Act 1985 in a comprehensive and detailed manner starting from 2020 onwards. The amendment process has passed several approval platforms at the Department, Ministry and Cabinet levels. This amendment is important to enable the department to respond to the European Union (EU) in relation to the European Commission (EC) audit on Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated (IUU) fishing which was held in 2017.
The two-day workshop was important to finalize the amendment matrix before it was submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) in early June.
Also present were representatives from the Policy and Strategic Planning Division of KPKM, Food Security Division of KPKM, Legal Office of KPKM and DOF, Division Directors, Directors of Fisheries Research Institute, State Directors and staff of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia to make a success of this act.
