YB Datuk Joseph Arthur Kurup, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security paid an official working visit to the WorldFish office to inspect the facilities and hatchery of Tilapia Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT).
His presence was welcomed by Dr. Essam Yassin Mohammed, Director General of WorldFish along with the top management.
The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) is collaborating with WorldFish on the GIFT tilapia project to increase aquaculture production through the production of broodstock and fry produced through genetic improvement methods. This smart collaboration plays a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for aquaculture and helps in reducing the cost of fisheries reclamation.
During this visit, Worldfish donated 20,000 GIFT tilapia fingerlings worth RM200,000 to the Bukit Tinggi Aquaculture Development Centre (PPA), Pahang.
Also present were YBrs. Dr Azhar bin Hamzah, Senior Director of Fisheries Research Institute, Puan Zarina binti Zainuddin, Penang State Director of Fisheries as well as fisheries and Worldfish officers.
