The Fisheries (Inland Fisheries Aquaculture) Regulations (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Federal Territory of Labuan) 2017 were set by the Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry on 20 February 2017 and officially came into force on 1 March 2017.

This regulation is enforced to ensure that every individual who carries out inland fisheries aquaculture activities for commercial purposes in the relevant territory complies with the set standards. In short, entrepreneurs are required to have a permit to build premises and a valid license to carry out farming operations, with an annual fee of RM 50.00 for each culture system. In addition, this regulation details the licensee’s responsibilities in managing fish health, reporting diseases promptly, and adhering to good aquaculture practices to prevent environmental pollution through the control of effluent discharge into river waters.
