As an effort to address the effects of climate change as well as to ensure the increase in productivity and sustainability of the country’s agro-food sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MOH) under the Madani Economic Initiative Fund will develop the Fisheries Sector Climate Change Action Plan as a guide to the government, industry, community and stakeholders in facing the challenges of climate change holistically.
For this purpose, the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) together with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) as the implementing agency of the Madani Economic Initiative has developed a draft for the comprehensive Fisheries Sector Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan discussed this morning.
Also present today were representatives from the Climate Change Division, Ministry of Natural Resources and Nature Sustainability (NRES), the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM), the National Water Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM), Universitu Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), The National University of Malaysia (UKM) and the staff of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia to make this plan a success.
