YBrs. Tuan Haji Wan Muhammad Aznan bin Abdullah, Deputy Director General of Fisheries (Management) attended the 4th CTY International Guppy & Plecostomus competition which lasted for 3 days from 21 to 23 June 2024 in Penang and was officiated by YB Tuan Wong Yuee Harng, Pengkalan Kota Assemblyman.
The main winner of this competition was won by a participant from China, Yuan Zhiguang.
The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) will always support all efforts and initiatives to organize ornamental fish competitions held nationwide in line with the department’s direction of increasing ornamental fish production by 2030.
Ornamental fish production is expected to increase by 352 million fish worth RM550 million by 2030. In 2023, the production of ornamental fish is 241 million with a value of RM373 million and 21% of it is for export purposes.
Also present were YBhg. Dato’ Chew Seng Lye, Chairman of Chew Thean Yeang Aquarium Sdn. Bhd, Mr. Ronnie Chew, Programme Advisor of CTY Guppy Group (MCCG) as well as fisheries officers from the headquarters and state.
