The Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) through the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Regional Fisheries Offices in collaboration with RHB Volunteers and the City Fish Hunter Group (KPIB) organised a foreign fish hunting programme in Sungai Kuyoh, Bukit Jalil with the involvement of 200 volunteers.

The foreign fish hunting program was held as one of the efforts of DOF with related parties to jointly curb the population of invasive foreign fish species from continuing to flood the public waters, thereby affecting native fish species in the ecosystem of Sungai Kuyoh as well as cleaning the banks of the river. The total fish landing during this program was 159.54 kg for tilapia and pleco only.

This activity showed positive developments with the city’s fishing successfully reduced at 5 inventory stations.

The programme has successfully achieved its objectives in public awareness regarding the threat of foreign fish and preserving river ecosystems. The presence of foreign fish species that still exist in Sungai Kuyoh is decreasing. Conservation efforts to release native fish such as local quail are encouraged for the sustainability of the resource.

Also present at this program was YBhg. Dato’ Azahari bin Haji Othman, Senior Director of Aquaculture Division, YBhg. Dato’ Mohd Rashid Mohamad, Group Chief Executive Officer of RHB Bandlking Group, YBrs. En. David Chong Ming Liang, Group Chief Operating Officer, Pn Suhanah Binti Kassiron, Director of Fisheries of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur/Putrajaya and fisheries officers of the headquarters.
