His Royal Highness Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris A’fifullah Shah D.K., D.K II (Johor)., D.K.A II., P.S.M., S.P.C.M., S.S.D.K, Raja DiHilir Perak Darul Ridzuan has agreed to launch the Artificial Anchoring Programme in the Waters of the Sembilan Islands, Perak.
12 units of trawl barrier soft bottom reefs (TDL-AT) worth RM370,660.00 have been anchored for conservation purposes and to curb fishing activities using resource-unfriendly equipment in coastal waters.
The Department of Fisheries (DOF) has channelled an allocation of RM1.26 million to the state of Perak for the development and monitoring of artificial reefs from the 11th MP to the 12th MP (2019 to 2024). During the period, a total of 47 reef units were anchored in four different locations in Perak waters.
The development of artificial reefs in Malaysia is part of the government’s efforts through DOF to conserve marine biodiversity and ensure that the management of fishery resources is always sustainable and secure. The results of this reef berth can also benefit 18,217 fishermen in the state of Perak.
