The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup has inaugurated the Pilot Program for the Strengthening of National Innovation for People’s Agro-Food Security (PINTAR) at the Tagal Project of Kampung Sosogoh Community, Pagalungan Nabawan, Sabah.

This tagal system is a conservation program for fisheries resources through the involvement of communities that are able to preserve and protect the river ecosystem and even become a source of food for the local population and will also become an ecotourism attraction.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) through the Malaysian Fisheries Department has contributed RM40,000 worth of aid in the form of tourism infrastructure such as the construction of public toilets, equipment and native fish seeds while the Sabah Fisheries Department has also contributed RM20,000 worth of aid to the 12 Retirement Committees

There was also the release of 2,850 4-inch river lamprey fish seeds donated by the Department of Fisheries Malaysia, with the aim of conserving fish species in increasing the population and conserving biodiversity.

Also present were Datuk Badrul Hisham Mohd, KPKM Deputy Secretary General (Development), Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director General of the Malaysian Fisheries Department, Mr Azhar Kassim, Sabah State Fisheries Director and Sabah and Putrajaya State fisheries officials.
