YB Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security took the time to visit ARC Berkat Agrofood Sdn Bhd, the winner of the Outstanding Breeder Award (Freshwater Fish Category) 2023 in conjunction with the Recreational Aquaculture program of the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security with the Media.
The visit was to see the current development of the aquaculture farming sector in the state of Selangor which coincides with one of the Ministry’s directions which is to empower the aquaculture industry which continues to contribute to the country’s fisheries resources.
Aquaculture production for the State of Selangor from 2020 to 2023 is as much as 90,800.05 metric tons with a value of RM1.25 billion and this year the Selangor Fisheries Department is targeting aquaculture production of 30,347.70 metric tons. Production for the year 2023 through freshwater farming of 19,279.33 metric tons involving 147 farmers, brackish water farming 2543.40 metric tons with 183 farmers while ornamental fish farming recorded the production of 546,438 fish involving 18 farmers and 30 farmers for 155,226,208 shellfish seeds.
