YB Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has completed the Release Programme of 670 Agar Turtle Hatchlings at Pasir Panjang Beach, Redang Island in conjunction with the 67th national month.

He said the programme is part of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia’s ongoing efforts in conserving the increasingly endangered species of turtles in Malaysia and is not only aimed at restoring the turtle population in the country’s waters, but also to raise public awareness on the importance of preserving endangered species and the need to protect the environment.

The Department of Fisheries also hopes that this programme can foster awareness and collective responsibility for environmental conservation among Malaysians and is one of the initiatives to ensure that future generations can inherit the country’s rich biodiversity.

Also present at the programme were YB Haji Hilmi bin Harun, Deputy Chairman of the Terengganu State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Food Security and Commodities Committee, Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia, Mr. Ruzaidi bin Mamat, Director of Fisheries of Terengganu as well as state fisheries officers and headquarters.
