Ybhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan bin Hussain, Director General of Fisheries Malaysia paid a working visit to the Turtle Information Centre which has been developed by Awana Kijal Golf & Spa Resort.
Awana Kijal has developed a turtle information centre and a turtle hatchery centre in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries Malaysia. Awana Kijal also sought advice from the Department of Fisheries Malaysia to obtain input on turtle information and how to manage the hatchery centre as well as the hatchery process and then the turtle hatchery release program into the sea.
The turtle species found here are mostly agar turtles and crow turtles. During the spawning season, the mother turtle will come ashore to dig a hole in the sand and lay eggs. A total of 80 to 120 eggs often lay eggs around the beach around Awana Kijal. In this regard, it is hoped that the close cooperation between this Department and Awana Kijal can be continued in the future.
Also present was Mr. Ruzaidi bin Mat Noor, the Head of the Kemaman Fisheries Region and officials from the Fisheries Headquarters and State Fisheries Officials.
