The Department of Fisheries Malaysia received a courtesy call from a delegation from the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), Universiti Sains Malaysia led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azeem Fazwan Ahmad Farouk, Director of the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and Prof. Dato’ Dr. Tan Shau Hwai, Director of the Centre for Ocean & Coastal Studies (CEMACS) at Wisma Tani this morning.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the potential for cooperation in activities that can be implemented jointly as well as the proposal to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two parties.

This collaboration is expected to bring great benefits to both parties, especially in strengthening research and development (R&D) efforts that support the sustainable growth of the fisheries sector in Malaysia. Through the signing of this MoU, the relationship between the Department of Fisheries Malaysia and USM is expected to create better synergy in facing future challenges, especially in terms of marine resource conservation and fisheries technology development.

The discussion was chaired by YBhg Dato’ Haji Azahari bin Haji Othman, Senior Director of the Aquaculture Division and attended by YBrs. Dr. Azhar Bin Hamzah, Senior Director of Fisheries Research Institute, En. Pang Anak Nyukang, Senior Deputy Director of the Fisheries Conservation and Protection Division and fisheries officers at the headquarters.
