As you are aware, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) through the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF) is in the process of amending the Fisheries Bill 1985 (Act 317) to strengthen the legislation to be applied throughout Malaysia. Several engagement sessions with the State Government were held to obtain views and suggestions on the amendment of the Bill.

In this regard, a special briefing session on the amendment of the Bill for Act 317 by Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security to YB Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Jeffrey G. Kitingan, Deputy Chief Minister 1 and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry of Sabah (MAFFI) as well as relevant Ministries/Departments/Agencies was held on 12 December 2024 (Thursday). at Level 8 Meeting Room, Menara Lembaga Farmers Organisation, Kuala Lumpur.

This briefing session was also attended by YBhg. Dato’ Haji Adnan Bin Hussain, Director General of Fisheries Malaysia, YBhg. Datuk Leonard Stephen Poyong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry of Sabah (MAFFI), Mr. Rizal bin Johari, Private Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry of Sabah (MAFFI), Mr. C.K. Low, Special Duties Officer (PTTK), YBhg. Datuk Azhar bin Hj Kassim, Director of Sabah Fisheries, Tuan Hj. Yusof Hj. Ag Besar,
General Manager of Ko-Nelayan, Tuan Syed Mohd Hamizan bin Roslan, General Manager of Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd. (SAFMA), Pn. Yeo Moi Eim, Senior Director of Fisheries Biosecurity Division, as well as officials of ministries and departments.
