The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) was launched in 1980 to promote and facilitate technical cooperation amongst developing countries based on the concept of self-reliance. The programme consolidates various forms of technical cooperation in areas where Malaysia has experiences and expertise. The programme encourages exchange of relevant experiences, pooling and sharing of resources and development of complementary capabilities through:
• Provision of scholarship and study awards for studies at various institutions in Malaysia.
• Provision of training where participants are sponsored by third world countries / organizations;
• Study visits and practical attachments;
• Export of services and expertise in various fields.
Presently, the MTCP covers 133 developing countries. The MTCP is managed by Economic Planning Unit (http://www.epu.gov.my) of the Prime Minister's Department in its capacity as national focal point for technical cooperation and implemented with the cooperation of other government agencies, training institutions, universities and private sector agenscies.
Course on Fisheries under The Malaysian Technical Coopertion Programme (MTCP)
The Department of Fisheries Malaysia is responsible for the overall development of fisheries industry in the country. The Department also conducted research to develop new systems and technologies to increase fish and shrimp production as well as managing fisheries resources. Technical and extension services as well as training programme are also available for all farmers and fishers. These services promote development of modern and efficient industry with well-trained and skilled manpower. Under the MTCP, the department conducts 2 courses on aquaculture and resources management. These courses are:
• Brackish water Aquaculture Management Course
• Fisheries Resources Management Course
